DESCRIPTION
Mercy is a single-player 3D narrative game that allows the player to explore the life of a struggling mother. By stepping into the shoes of this mother, you can explore her home to be able to grasp an understanding of the home's history.
Mercy's narrative is reflective of religious trauma, and how it can affect an entire family. This narrative explores the mind of a mother who lost her family due to religious beliefs. By exploring her home, the player learns about how this loss has affected the mother.
DESIGN GOALS
RELIGIOUS IMPACT
Recognizable religious symbols and ideologies are presented within this game to help the player easily understand the implications of the religious narrative.
EMOTIONAL ATTACHMENT
The narrative is reflected on the mother's past mistakes, and how these mistakes have affected her life. By discussing these topics, the player grows empathetic with the mother regardless if she was in the wrong. This emotional reaction is caused by only hearing her side of the story, and how her life was impacted by it.
FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT
With the environmental depictions of a middle-class home, comes a familiarity of the surrounding environment for many players. This familiarity creates a heightened sense of empathy and understanding of the mother's actions.
