DESCRIPTION
Rewind is a single-player 3D platformer that confines the player within an ever-changing environment. The space around the player is influenced by their movement, forcing them to understand their surroundings to progress.
The player finds themselves tossed in a time loop inside of a strange megastructure and after failing to reach the exit at the start of the game. After falling to the bottom of the structure, they must find a way back to the beginning as the environment collapses and changes around them.
DESIGN GOALS
DISSOLVING SPACE
To make the journey more difficult, the structure around the player is constantly shifting and collapsing throughout a time loop. On each of the levels, the floors disappear, motivating the player to move quickly and perform well.
LIVING ENVIRONMENT
Depending on the player's movement throughout the levels, the environment acts accordingly. Trigger areas are placed deliberately throughout each level to react to the player's movement, giving control to the player to move throughout the space.
TIME LOOP
Every time the player fails to exit, themselves and the environment are reset to the beginning of the time loop. The behavior of the environment in each loop is the same, allowing the player to gather as much information as possible. With this information, they learn how to clear each level.
